Mallow are easy winners over Ballyclough in Football League

THIS win for Mallow in the Cavanagh’s Fermoy Division 1 FL over Ballyclough almost assures them a place in the knock-out stages. The game at Mallow on Sunday morning was played in dry conditions. The winners got off to a very good start with early points by Michael O’Rourke (2) Michael Quirke and Richie Willis in off the post 0-4 to 0-0 after seven minutes.

Teddy O’Shea pointed for Ballyclough. In the 15th minute good play by long serving Diarmuid Herlihy to Jack O’Mahony led to a fine point by Teddy O’Shea. Damian Buckley followed with another point for Ballyclough. Edmund O’Connor saved well from Michael O’Rourke before Mark Kenny with a Mallow point opened up a lead 0-5 to 0-3. Mallow dominated from here on. Their half backs were very solid and a series of points by Eoin Carroll, Colin Stanton, Peter Attridge and Michael O’Rourke (free) had Mallow 0-9 to 0-3 clear at the interval.

On the restart Mallow again did well. Stephen O’Callaghan worked well with Michael O’Rourke who placed Peter Attridge for a goal. Attridge placed Mark Kenny for a point 1-10 to 0-3. Ballyclough had two points in quick succession by Teddy O’Shea and Mark Heffernan that completed their scoring tally. Mallow continued to dominate. They used the short passing at speed and created some good chances.

Eight more points without reply by Michael O’Rourke, Alan Hogan, and Peter Attridge gave them a comfortable 17 point win in the end.
