Beautiful Boherbue at the ‘top of Duhallow’

-

AS summer blooms bring a riot of colour to Boherbue, it’s all systems go as usual in the busy North Cork Village where community spirit is very much to the fore.

Situated ‘at the top of Duhallow’ the village is central to both Cork and Kerry, and many people from the parish travel to work in the nearby towns of Newmarket, Kanturk, Mallow, and Castleisland.

The beautifully kept village and environs are much admired by visitors, and locals are justifiably proud of their commitment to keeping it in a pristine condition. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Boggeragh chain of mountains to the South and the Mullaghareirk to the North, Boherbue is a wonderful place to live.

Business in the region continues to boom with both family firms and larger enterprises providing in excess of 250 jobs locally - with Boherbue Co-op and Retail Park which includes the large Super Valu Store key players in the area.

The splendid amenities in the village are second to none. Pearse Memorial Hall is in constant use for all types of functions, meetings, and events, and is available for hire. Both the Comprehensive School and National School provide top class education for all students, while at the local Educare Centre, tots from babies to pre school are cared for.

There are fine GAA grounds and the Club here has shaped the sporting lives of thousands of young people over the years, while the nearby Handball Court is in constant use by people from the area and beyond.

The children’s playground is a delightful place to visit and was particularly attractive recently with an array of daffodils proclaiming that winter was over at last.

Boherbue is home to numerous thriving clubs and organisations which is very evident on St. Patrick’s Day when the parish fields one of the finest parades in North Cork.
