DAWN CHORUS WALK

On this Saturday 5th of May, Castlemagn­er Sinsir Club will host their Annual Dawn Chorus Walk. This well establishe­d special Bealtaine event will begin at 05:00 am in Cecilstown village and will incorporat­e the scenic views of Ballyhass Lakes and the surroundin­g countrysid­e. The route is approximat­ely 3 miles in length. The walk will be led by Fr. Michael Dorgan PP and ornitholog­ist and bird watch expert, Vivian O’Gorman. Adults €10.00, children €5.00. Now an establishe­d tradition, a full Irish barbecued breakfast will be served at Castlemagn­er Community Centre on completion of the walk. This is included in the fee. An optional novelty quiz with simple prizes will take place during the breakfast, based on informatio­n given by the speakers during the walk. Please wear appropriat­e footwear and clothing including a high visibility vest. Registrati­on will be taken on the morning of the walk. For further details, please ring 0868521808.

NOVENA

The Annual Novena in honour of the Venerable Edel Quinn will take place in St. Mary’s Church, Castlemagn­er from 4th 12th May at 8.00pm each evening, except for Saturday 5th, when it commences at 7.00pm, before the evening Mass. The event includes rosary, benedictio­n and other prayers each evening. The faithful continue to pray for the Beatificat­ion of Edel, a wonderful Irish lay missionary, who was very active in the Legion of Mary. Born and baptised in Castlemagn­er, she died in Nairobi, Kenya on May 12th 1944, aged 36. 3. Sunday June 10th JAHL Final. JAHC Round 1 Weekend of 22/ 23/24/ June Kilbrin v Freemount. Next round County JB Football Kilbrin v Randal Og, no date, time or Venue yet.

KILBRIN SQUASH CLUB

Last Friday night Kilbrin Squash Club had their championsh­ip finals and some very competitiv­e squash was played. The results are as follows. B Plate, Thomas Fitzgibbon beat Ger Fitzgibbon. B Championsh­ip. Barry Mannix beat John Killen. A Plate. Chris Guiney beat Joe White. A Championsh­ip. Tomas O Riordan beat Jim O’Flynn.

There was also a presentati­on on the night to the victorious Kilbrin Division 6 team that won the Division 6 Munster squash league this season. Congratula­tions to them.

Thanks also to Brendan Barrett and the squash committee for running this very successful club throughout the year. If anyone is interested in taking up this sport please contact a committee member.

BINGO

Bingo continues every Monday night at 8.30. Jackpot is €1,900 on 53 calls. Bonus ball is €220. Please come along and enjoy the night.

VILLAGE CLEAN UP

There

will

be

a

clean-up

in parish next Saturday and the Saturday after at 11am from the community centre. We hope for a big turnout. Bags and bibs will be provided and the bags can be left where they are filled. The full bags will be picked up that evening.

TIR NA NOG

The Tir na Nog have finished the mindfulnes­s course. This was very well received and many thanks to all concerned in organising this. On Monday 7th May a surprise guest will come and speak to the group. Everyone is welcome and an entertaini­ng discussion is guaranteed so please come along. The group have alot of plans going forward including a poetry evening at the Dr Croke House. This will take place on Sunday 13th May so mark the date in your diary.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Following our recent meeting with the county council a further meeting will be held on Friday 27th April at 8pm where will get an update on works to be undertaken. Your local councillor­s will be in attendance at this meeting to discuss roads, hedges, footpaths, playground, broadband and any other topics that may be raised. Everyone should attend this meeting to find out what can be done on these most important issues.

OVER 60S SINGING

The North Cork heat of the over 60s singing competitio­n took place on 20th April in the Kilbrin social club. The winner on the night was Nora Mary O’Riordan who will go forward to the next round in City Hall in Cork on 20th may. We would like to offer our Congratula­tions to Nora Mary and we would like to remind you that a bus will be going from the village so if anyone wants to travel please contact Claire at the social club. Johnny Carroll will be playing on the night and it promises to be a great event.

The over 60’s singing competitio­n was begun in 1977 by Paddy O’Brien to combat loneliness and has raised huge amounts of money for the Irish Heart Foundation throughout the intervenin­g years. It is now the biggest social event in Ireland for over 60s. M.C. Paddy O’Brien has been involved in this event for the last 40 years and M.C it will feature on the Nationwide programme on 2nd May on RTE.

DAWN MASS

Dawn Mass will be held on Saturday 12th May at 6.30am in the Graveyard in Kilbrin. This is the same morning as the Darkness into Light walk/run so if anyone is looking to have a spiritual experience to start off the Summer why not try attending both.

The Darkness into Light walk/ run is taking place in many local centres (including Kanturk) so we would ask people signed up for this great event to call to Kilbrin on their way home for the 6.30am Mass.

Congratula­tions to Danny Heffernan and Katherine O’Connor on their recent marriage. Congratula­tions to all the new born’s in the parish over the last few weeks.
