In many country areas where National School close due to shortage of numbers, the buildings themselves become derelict and fall into despair. Not so in Tureencahil, situated at the hub of Sliabh Luachra, ancestral home to many famous muscians, story tellers, singers, dancers and of course Gaelic footballers.
The locals have now come together and transformed the old school into a meeting place where many events take place. Its now a centre which they can call their own and they are to be congratulated for their endeavours. Forthcoming events include a tea morning on this Friday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in aid of the Alzheimer’s Association – Everyone Welcome.
Bridge Classes for beginners commence on Monday, May 28, from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. details from 087 4135640 or 085 1741551. Sunday, July 1, has been set as the date for the annual barbecue – details from 087 9924821.
