Great days out this summer at Kanturk Golf Club

-

SUMMER is finally making an appearance and now the drive is on to get outdoors, for some r’n’r in the fresh air - and Kanturk Golf Club might just be the ideal venue.

Kanturk Golf Club was established in 1972 and is situated in the heartland of Duhallow. The course is set in a scenic area with splendid views of Mount Hilary and the surrounding countryside, and is a Par 71 layout which provides a good test for all levels of golfing ability.

Kanturk G.C. has seniors, men’s, women’s and juvenile members and provides many benefits to the community.

One of the main benefits of golf is that anyone can play. Golf can be enjoyed your entire life and it’s never too early or late to start! Men, women and juveniles across Ireland enjoy the social and health benefits from playing golf.

Life-long friends are made on the golf course and it’s one of the easiest ways to make friends as everyone has that common interest. There are also friendly outings such as the men’s and ladies weekly draws where members play together with different players each week and often enjoy a drink in the clubhouse after.

Kanturk G.C. has a family membership base and this provides a great opportunity for parents to spend time with their children enjoying a common interest while exercising and getting some fresh air. Golf is one of the few sports where men and women, young and old, boys and girls of all ability can play socially or competitively with and against each other.

Kanturk G.C. has a healthy juvenile section which compete in Munster team competitions as well as a North Cork League and children are awarded the opportunity to play other courses. The younger players play mini games until they can manage the course.

Juveniles in the club have had great success and Mairéad Martin is one such example. Mairéad is heading to Louisville University in the United States on a scholarship later this year. In 2017 alone she won the Irish Girls’ Close Championship and the Leinster Ladies’ championship in Donabate for the second time.

Golf is a great way to get out in the open for a few hours and enjoy some fresh air and exercise.

Kanturk Golf Club is currently undertaking a five year investment programme to develop the course and its facilities for the members. This work will involve significant investment in course drainage, equipment and supporting new members, through the juvenile, ladies and men’s new player development programmes.

The annual Kanturk Golf Classic is coming up on the bank holiday weekend and is open to all. Teams of three cost €120 and this includes there meals with dessert and tea or coffee.

You can also have a wager for €5 on whether or not you’ll hit the par 3 10th green with your first shot.

Entry also gets you a chance to win a year’s membership if you get a hole in one on the 10th. Call or text the number below to enter.

Also, feel free to call or text the number below if you are interested in taking up golf and they will be more than happy to help.

The 2018 rate for new members is just €300. For more information or for an application form please email kanturkgolfclub@eircom. net or call/text (085) 8700935.
