Fermoy have nine points to spare over Glanworth in JAFC

A WELL equipped Fermoy side proved deserving winners ovr Glanworth in the Synergy Fermoy Credit Union JAFC at Mitchelstown on Sunday. The winners used the short passing to good effect all through. They impressed at midfield where Brian O’Sullivan and Greg Lardner were in very good form. Brian O’Sullivan opened the scoring with an early point. Cian O’Carroll pointed a free in the seventh minute.

Glanworth relied mainly on Liam Cotter for scores who accounted for 1-4 for their 1-6 tally. Cotter opened Glanworth’s account in the 10th minute. Good play for Fermoy by Seamus Kelleher, Paudie Shanahan and Brian O’Sullivan led to Kelleher taking the return pass and pointing. Further points by Jack O’Callaghan Brian O’Sullivan and Cian O’Carroll made it 0-7 to 0-1.

Liam Cotter added two Glanworth points before he goaled from a 25th minute penalty when Denis Gallagher was brought down 0-8 to 1-3. In the closing moments Liam Cotter and Scott Sheehan worked well for Michael Blackburne who kicked a great point 0-8 to 1-4 at the break.

Fermoy had the aid of the stiff breeze in the second half. They dominated in the half backline and took some very good scores. Glanworth keeper William Jackson saved very well from Cian O’Carroll after being put through by Kieran Morrisson and Jack O’Callaghan. Points by Fergus Bogue, Greg Lardner (2) and Oisin Ennis had the winners 0-12 to 1-4 clear entering the final quarter.

Liam Cotter pointed another free after a foul on Podge Hannon. Good play by Kieran Morrisson led to another Oisin Ennis point. Liam Cotter worked well for Pierre O’Driscoll who completed Glanworth’s tally in the 52nd minute. In the closing moments Fermoy forced a penalty with Fergus Bogue crashing to the net. Glanworth lost their keeper to a black card. In injury time Cian O’Carroll completed the scoring with a pointed free. Glanworth now meet Kilworth in the losers section.
