Huge win for Shanballym­ore over Mallow

Shanballym­ore 4-23 Mallow 1-7

SHANBALLYM­ORE had their biggest win in many years in any competitio­n when they easily accounted for Mallow on Sunday in Shanballym­ore in the Cavanagh’s Fermoy Div 1 HL. From the start they dominated and their passing was excellent. They used the diagonal ball into the their attack and they had Mallow under pressure all through.

Darren Roche opened with a first minute point. Jamie Sheedy’s long range free found its way to the net with Colman and Brian O’Reilly following with points. Two pointed frees by Jamie Sheedy had the winners 1-5 to 0-0 ahead after eight minutes.

Garry Sweeney opened Mallow’s account from a free in the 10th minute. Michael Maher added a Mallow point. The home side hit a purple patch with some well taken scores.

First Colman O’Reilly worked well for Vincent Burke who pointed. The latter added another after good play by his brother Miceal. Brian O’Reilly added a massive point before Colman O’Reilly placed Jamie Sheedy for his second goal in the 22nd minute as Shanbally moved 2-8 to 0-2 clear.

Well taken points by Robert McHugh, Brian O’Reilly, Vincent Burke and Jamie Sheedy were followed by a pointed free for Mallow who trailed at the break 2-12 to 0-3.

Mallow made two substituti­ons for the second half. It mattered litle as the winners continued where they left off. Their half backs Padraigh Fitzgerald, Sean Lynch and Eoin O’Regan did very well.

Good play by Eoin O’Regan, Brian O’Reilly and Sean Lynch led to a well taken Miceal Burke point. Robert McHugh and Brian O’Reilly worked hard for Jamie Sheedy who pointed. Sheedy added a point before a free by the same player led to a 37th minute goal by Brian O’Reilly 3-15 to 0-3.

The winners keeper Stephen Donegan saved well from a close in Fergal McCormack free. They had their 4th goal in the 5lst minute when Darren Roche put Darragh Palmer through 4 -17 to 0- 4. Mallow never gave up.

They had points by Michael Maher and Barry John Ryan 419 to 0- 6. Good play by Darragh Palmer led to a fine Robert McHugh point. Mallow’s goal came late when Fergal McCormack put Mark Kenny through. Paul and Vincent Burke had late points for the winners who emerged victorious on a 4-23 to 1-7 scoreline.
