Students set the tone for musical round of golf
GOLFERS at the Kanturk Club were accompanied around the course by a miscellany of melodies when Cork ETB School of Music students and teachers hosted their end of year Session at the Clubhouse last week.
Students from the Newmarket, Boherbue, Rathcoole and Banteer Centres with their teacher Noreen O’ Connor took part. The senior and intermediate groups Casadh Ó Thuaidh and Ceoiltoiri Óg Duhalla got together for a session of music, song and dance. Some beginners and juniors students also joined in, along with Rosaleen O’Leary and accompanist Kay Fehin.
Casadh O’Thuaidh, with teachers Rosaleen O’Leary, Bridget O’Connell and Noreen O’Connor, have been busy throughout the year performing at numerous events around the county. Recent performances included a lunchtime concert in the Crawford Art Gallery, the launch of the Cork ETB School of Music County Choir, and the Munster team Special Olympics event at City Hall. Last Christmas the young musicians played at fundraising Masses in Ballydesmond and Boherbue in aid of Fr. Martin McCormack’s African projects. Meanwhile Ceoiltoiri Og Duhallow have also performed at St James’ Church, Mallow and various other venues.
Noreen O’Connor wished Casadh Ó Thuaidh students the very best of luck ahead of their solo, duet and trio competitions at the Munster Fleadh in July.
Students have taken part in competitions and sat exams through the year, both in the Cork ETB School of Music and the London College of Music exams and, during the session in Kanturk, Noreen O’Connor presented certificates to these students.
