Streetfeast tickles the tastebuds in Knocknagree

- SHEILA FITZGERALD

DINING al fresco was the theme in Knocknagree last Sunday when locals got together to celebrate Street Feast Day.

The Fair Green at the heart of the village provided the perfect setting and mother nature duly obliged with sunshine and balmy temperatures throughout the day.

The laden tables were groaning with a fine selection of food and beverages and there were plenty of activities to keep the children entertained.

Maíread Cronin who was one of the event organisers told The Corkman that days such as this were a perfect way to encourage and foster community spirit.

“In Knocknagree, we realize the importance of community togetherness and here in our beautiful Fair Green people of all ages and nationalities can enjoy sitting down to meals together,” said Maíread.

“This has provided a wonderful opportunity to share good food, conversation and strengthen relationships with our neighbours,” she added.

Organisers thanked the Fairfield and hall Committees and Knocknagree Development Association for their help in running the Street Feast.

The concept of Street Feast was first introduced in Dublin in 2010 as a means to reduce isolation and boost community resilience.

President Michael D Higgins became the patron in 2016 and this novel way of mingling within communities has been growing in popularity each year all across Ireland.
