Macroom FC to host FAI’s top brass at AGM
OVER the last decade, the FAI have been holding their annual general meeting in a different county and in 2018 Cork will be taking its turn. In simple terms the FAI will decamp from Abbottstown from August 1018. And one exciting aspect are visits to affiliated clubs by FAI delegates, managers and former senior internationals. The great news for Macroom FC is that it has been chosen as one of the clubs that will host the FAI.
This major event will take place on August 16 and will involve the unveiling of plaques commemorating the club’s 40th anniversary and a remembrance plaque for deceased members.
FAI CEO John Delaney will be in attendance along with President Tony Fitzgerald. Other top-level officials possibly, including the current senior men’s management team and former senior internationals, will also be visiting Macroom.
This is a huge occasion for the club and is an ideal way to showcase the fine facilities, large playing numbers and the many tireless volunteers that contribute to our excellent club.
Meanwhile, the club’s Underage Awards Evening will take place at the Riverside Park Hotel at 8pm on June 28. All teams from U12-U16, along with their parents, are invited to attend. Player of the Year, Top Scorer and Most Improved Player will be presented to all teams and medals will be collected by the successful teams from the 2017/18 season.
U14 Promotion:
The U14 division 1 side entertained College Corinthians at Murrayfield knowing victory would secure promotion. The home side were completely on top and ran out easy winners by 8-0. They will now compete at the top level in the Premier league for the 2018/19 season. Well done to all players and their management team of Noel Leahy, Dave Martin and Andy Morgans.
U15 Promotion Hunt:
This team are agonisingly close to promotion. A 3-2 home win over Wilton Utd has Macroom in pole position and they need just one more point to be guaranteed of ‘going up’. A great response from this team following the recent devastating loss in the Neil Welch cup final.
The U7, 8 and 9 groups have now completed their playing season. It was a hugely enjoyable year for all the players and the large interest is great to see.
Academy News:
The last few weeks were particularly good as the fine weather lent itself to great fun at Murrayfield. The U10s and U11s also finished up by holding a ‘World Cup’ at Murrayfield.
