Araglin downed by Glengariff

GLENGARRIFF were deserving winners over Araglin in the replay at Macroom on Saturday evening.
The heavy rain prior to the game made for slippy conditions. The Beara side opened with early points by Shaun O’Sullivan and Sean McCarthy. Araglin led briefly when Oisin Hickey was on hand to goal from a goalmouth break.
The winners recovered well from this set back. They got on top in midfield and their inside forwards were in devastating form accounting for 1-12 of their 1-14 tally. Sean McCarthy levelled from a free and he added a point from a ‘45.
Glengarriff missed two good goal scoring chances. They had some well taken points with Araglin having a pointed free by James Kearney. In injury time Eoghan McElhinney had a goal for the winners who led at the break 1-6 to 1-1.
On the resumption the winners were well in control. They added four points by the 36th minute 1-10 to 1-1. James Kearney pointed a free for Araglin with Paddy Kenneally having a goal that had the lead down to six points by the 48th minute 1-11 to 2-2.
The Avondhu side added points by Tom Kenneally (free) and Paddy Kenneally 1-11 to 2- 4. They were unable to get any closer and it was Glengarriff who finished with three points by Sean McCarthy (2) and Shaun O’Sullivan.
Araglin had a late pointed free by James Kearney. In the end it was Glengarriff who progressed to a quarter final meeting with Crosshaven.
