Grange 3-8 Deel Rovers 0-11

THREE goals in the opening eighteen minutes proved decisive as Grange held out for a close win over Deel Rovers at Buttevant on Friday evening.

The winners dominated in the opening quarter. Noel Barry opened with an early point after good play by Colin Scott. Deel Rovers forced level in the fifth minute when Seamus Whelan worked well for Anthony Watson who pointed.

The winners had their first goal in the eighth minute when Alan Deegan worked well for Colin Scott who goaled. Niall Barry and Henry O’Gorman swapped a point. Grange did well in midfield where Alan Deegan was in great form.

In the 15th minute David Keating goaled after a four man attack and followed three minutes later with his second goal after good play by Darren Roche and Kurt Wheeler 3-3 to 0-2. By half-time Grange were 3-4 to 0-4 clear.

On the resumption Deel Rovers came very strong. Their half backs closed off the Grange attack and the Milford side had some good points. Points by Sean O’Riordan, Paddy O’Regan and Brian Murphy (free) had the lead down to six points after 38 minutes.

Noel Barry kept Grange in touch with a pointed free.

Three rapid points by Henry O’Gorman (2) and Anthony Watson cut the lead to five points 3-6 to 0-10. O’Gorman had another pointed free.

In the closing moments Grange had a pointed ‘45 by Kurt Wheeler with Noel Barry closing out the game with an injury time pointed free.

Best for the winners were John Carmody, Alan Deegan, Noel Barry Colin Scott and Dave Keating.

For an understren­gth Deel Rovers side Pat Watson, Henry O’Gorman, Darragh Hannigan and Anthony Watson did well.
