Boherbue ignore outsiders rating to down Kiskeam

Boherbue 3-9 Kiskeam 1-9

IN-FORM Boherbue created somewhat of a surprise on relieving the involvement of senior side Kiskeam in a quarter-final of the Duhallow Cup.

The Junior A outfit weren’t overawed by the reputation of the opposition, Boherbue’s workrate remained consistently all through on reacting positively to Kiskeam’s best shots. Both sides were without a number of regulars, Kiskeam struggled to match the pace and slickness of an impressive Boherbue outfit.

The opening exchanges set the tone for the tussle, Boherbue impressive work-rate established an early foothold, Jerry O’Connor pointing prior to turning provider for namesake David at full forward to goal. And Boherbue maintained the lions share of possession, encouraged by the play of Jack Daly, Niall Murphy and Kevin Cremin with the O’Connors posing regular threats in attack.

Boherbue’s cause prospered from a second goal netted by Jerry O’Connor. In fairness, the Kiskeam response was swift, David Scannell pounced for a much sought goal only for Boherbue to reply with back to back points by James Casey to enjoy a 2-6 to 1-3 lead at the break.

Again Boherbue pushed all the right buttons on the restart, the O’Connors’ splitting the uprights before corner back Niall Murphy stepped upfield to net goal number three at the three quarter stage. That demonstrated Boherbue’s efficiency all through was the essential difference between the two sides.

The expected Kiskeam challenge was slow to materialise but for all their shortcomings, they offered a revival from points to Mike Herlihy, Tom and Seán O’Sullivan. Still Boherbue had no intention of leaving all their previous work go unrewarded and duly locked the gates to reduce the impact of a late Kiskeam onslaught.

Ultimately a useful workout for both sides, Boherbue looking to maintain their dominance on the Duhallow football domestic scene. Neighbours Kiskeam attempt to get the right blend, planning to build from the disappointment of an opening round Co.SFC defeat to St. Nicks as they face up to Mallow in Round 2 in an effort to retain an interest in the 2018 race.
