Clyda Rovers emerge deserving winners over Kilshannig in replay

CLYDA Rovers had seven points to spare over Kilshannig in the replayed Hibernian Hotel JAHC game at Mallow. Kilshannig got the perfect start. In the second minute Dermot Twomey put Kieran Twomey in for the first score. Diarmuid Twomey followed with a point from a free and from play to go 0-3 clear.

Clyda Rovers were slow to settle. They had an outstandin­g free taker in Seamus Ronayne. He had his first free in the 9th minute. Two rapid points by Colin Kelly had the sides level by the 12th minute.

Clyda hit the front with a long range free by Seamus Ronayne. Kilshannig lost their way a bit and they hit some wides. Seamus Ronayne with two frees had Clyda 0-6 to 0-3 clear after 18 minutes. Dermot Twomey pointed a long range free. The puckout by Conor Roche found Ray Carey who pointed. There was an exchange of points up to the break that had the winners ahead at the interval 0-9 to 0-7.

The Rovers dominated on the resumption. They defended very well with Ollie O’Hanlon, Chris Kenny Cian O’Sullivan and Conor Flanagan outstandin­g. Points by Seamus Ronayne and Tim Buckley were followed by a Kilshannig point by Diarmuid O’Sullivan after good play by Trevor O’Regan and Frank McCarthy. In the 36th minute Seamus Ronayne with another free opened up a four point lead 0-12 to 0-8. Kilshannig replied with points by Kieran Twomey and Dermot Twomey 0-13 to 0-10 by the end of the third quarter.

Trevor O’Regan pointed for Kilshannig following a four man attack. Seamus Ronayne added another free and in the 56th minute he landed a long range free that was finished to the net by Tim Buckley as Clyda moved six points clear.

Dermot O’Sullivan had a late pointed free with the winners closing out the game with two late points by Seamus Ronayne.
