Kilshannig earn close win over Doneraile

KILSHANNIG and Doneraile played out a keenly contested Hibernian Hotel JAHC game at Buttevant on Saturday evening. Rain during the latter stages of the first made for slippy conditions. Lee O’Shea opened the scoring for Doneraile. Good play by Diarmuid O’Sullivan led to a Kevin O’Flynn equaliser in the third minute. The winners added two quick points. Ross McCarthy had a Doneraile point in the 8th minute.

Kilshannig hit a good patch – Liam Casey had a long range point and Dermot Twomey worked well for O’Flynn who opened up a lead 0-5 to 0-2. Doneraile hit back with two pointed frees by Lee O’Shea with Cillian Good with a point closing the gap to the minimum after 23 minutes. Diarmuid O’Sullivan worked well for a Kilshannig point with Kevin O’Flynn with a late free giving the winners an interval lead 0-7 to 0-4.

On the changeover Dermot Twomey edged the Glantane side double scores clear. Doneraile did very well. Their defence were very solid and they had an outstandin­g free taker in Lee O’Shea. Good play by John Cronin led to a fine Sean Enright point. Dermot Twomey replied for Kilshannig.

Three points on the trot for Doneraile by Lee O’Shea (2) and David Sheedy had the sides level 0-9 each entering the final quarter. Kevin O’Flynn edged the winners ahead with two more points with Dermot Twomey and Cillian Good exchanging a late point that saw Kilshannig hold out for a close win.
