Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels 5-20 Glanworth 1-15

THIS Division 2 FL game at Churchtown saw the winners produce their best performanc­e this year. Over the hour 10 of their players figured on the scoresheet and the outcome was never in doubt. Shane Coleman and Liam Cotter exchanged an early point.

Thomas Fitzgibbon had the first of his three goals when put through by Sean Murphy after 8 minutes. Pierre O’Driscoll kept Glanworth in touch with a point. The Gaels moved 1-10 to 0-7 ahead after 25 minutes. They had two goals by Pauric O’Shea before half time. The first following good work by Colin O’Brien and Eugene Barrett with the second when Sean Murphy worked well for O’Shea to give his side an interval lead 3-10 to 0-7.

On the resumption Thomas Fitzgibbon worked well for Sean Murphy who pointed. Aidan Murphy worked well on the flank for Fitzgibbon to have his second goal and open up a lead 4-12 to 0-8. Glanworth forced a penalty when Liam Cotter was fouled. The same player blazed the penalty narrowly wide. Fitzgibbon had his third goal entering the final quarter after a quickly taken free by Pauric O’Shea 5-16 to 0-11. Both sides exchanged points. Throughout the game both goalkeeper­s Padraigh Morrissey and William Jackson were in great form.

The Glanworth keeper even though conceding five goals made some massive saves particular­ly in the second half. Both the Gaels and Glanworth will contest the league quarter finals along with Grange and Ballyhooly while Kilshannig and Shanballym­ore have moved to the semi finals.
