Smarter, cheaper cooking pilot project is part of antidumping initiative

-

MILLSTREET Tidy Towns group are launching a new anti dumping initiative this Thuirsday in co-operation with Cork County Council and Southern Regional Waste Office.

This is a pilot project which, if successful, is envisaged to be widely used across the southern region by Tidy Towns groups and hopefully city and county councils.

As part of this project Millstreet Tidy Towns are introducing ‘Smart Store Cooking’ at the launch at O’Keeffe’s Supervalu, Minor Row, Millstreet this Thursday, June 21 from 3-5pm. There will be a cooking demo, some entertainment and Country Clean will be on site to demonstrate how to compost and recycle correctly.

“This project is hugely important and at its core it is part of a sustainability project that will reduce landfill and help in reduction of waste in the home and help combat illegal dumping,” said a group spokesperson. “If people are smarter about how they cook, this leads to less waste. It’s a win-win - cheaper on the pocket at the till, cheaper on the pocket for bin collection, and better for the environment.”

This is a pilot project in conjunction with the Southern Regional Waste Office and is being funded by the Anti Dumping Initiative 2018. The launch on Thursday is an opportunity to showcase how this will work and, it is hoped, everyone might pick up a few tips.
