Intermedia­tes ready for Kilnamarty­ra

MACROOM take on Béal Átha ‘n Ghaorthaid­h in the Premier Intermedia­te Championsh­ip in Kilnamarty­ra next Sunday at 3pm. Both teams lost in the opening round and the losers will be out of the championsh­ip.

Béal Átha defeated Macroom in the quarter-final in 2016 but Macroom are well prepared and are hoping to take the spoils.

Premier Intermedia­te: Kelleher Shield, Div. 1 Football League: Macroom 0-13, Valley Rovers 4-10.

AN under strength Macroom were beaten by Valley Rovers in Kilnamarty­ra on Saturday night. Macroom, aided by the breeze in the first-half, trailed by 2-3 to 0-8 at half-time, having missed four point-scoring chances from frees and play. After 50 minutes the teams were level 0-13 to 2-7 but ‘Valleys’ added 2-3 in the final seven minutes.

U-6S: Macroom U-6s played their first ever game when they entertaine­d Clondrohid.

Macroom players were divided into four mini sides and Clondrohid into two. In a round-robin format, they played each other in a very pleasant morning of football.

U-7/U-8: In a blitz in Aghinagh, Macroom played superbly against Aghinagh, Iveleary and Kilnamarty­ra.

U-10: The Under 10s won two matches on Saturday in the Dromtarrif­fe Blitz and lost out to Glenville. The team played brilliantl­y over two weekends and won five out of six games.

U-11: On Friday the U-11s played Naomh Abán, away, in a very good ‘run-out’. The match was even at the start but then Macroom found it easier to score.

The efforts of the Macroom lads was excellent. Macroom won by a few points.
