School friends rekindle memories 50 years after Glenogue NS closure
LIFE stories were exchanged, former friendships rekindled and childhood adventures revisited when past pupils of Glenogue National School in Bweeng got together to mark the 50th Anniversary of the day their former school closed it’s doors for the final time.
Past pupils with their families and friends travelled from all over the country, as well as from the UK to attend the event which commenced with Mass in St Columba’s Church in Bweeng which was concelebrated by three past pupils - Fr Michael O Hanlon, Fr John O’Shea and Fr Sean Horgan.
The celebration continued at the local community centre with plenty of refreshments and music provided by the Bweeng Scór Group who came second in the All-Ireland.
Glenogue was a two teacher rural school on the Bweeng to Dromahane road and its building remains are still standing to this day. It opened in 1866 and closed in 1968 having served children from Bweeng, Dromahane, and Glantane parishes for 102 years.
