Kilshannig 3-7 Killavullen 0-10

KILSHANNIG took the Rebel Óg North Under 14 A FL title at Castletownroche on Sunday evening when they overcame Killavullen.

Over the hour the Glantane side were the better balanced outfit but Killavullen who trailed all through were right back in the hunt but needed a goal to have any realistic chance. Kilshannig dominated from the start with Shane O’Connell and Alex O’Leary outstanding in midfield.

The opening score came in the ninth minute when Ben Creedon put James Dunne through for a point. Alex O’Leary goaled from a penalty. By the 20th minute Kilshannig had moved 1-4 to 0-0 clear Killavullen’s top player Kian Lane had his sides only first half score a point in the 28th minute from a free.

For the second half Killavullen moved Chris O’Callaghan to partner Patrick O’Grady in midfield. Killavullen keeper Niall Murray saved well from Sean O’Riordan in the 37th minute.

O’Riordan followed with a point. Killavullen made a huge comeback. Kian Lane pointed after a four man attack and Jamie Magnier placed Daniel Ryan for a point. Shane O’Connell pointed for the winners.

Good play by Oisin Larkin led to another Daniel Ryan point. Kian Lane soloed through and put Chris O’Callaghan in for a fine point 1-6 to 0- 5. Just when it looked as if Killavullen were going to dominate it was Kilshannig’s Shane O’Connell who worked well with James Dunne who offloaded to the well placed Anthony Jenks who goaled giving the winners a lead 2-6 to 0-5.

Killavullen battled to the very end. They tried very hard for a goal but the Kilshannig full backline of Gavin McCarthy, Colm Ring and Brian O’Connor were very tight. Their keep Alan O’Flynn was also in very good form.

Good play by Chris O’Callaghan led to another point by Daniel Ryan. Killavullen hit three rapid points 2-6 to 0- 9. Donagh Ryan pointed for Kilshannig and they had a goal by Tim Kavanagh in injury time after being put through by Sean O’Riordan.

Deep in injury time Kian Lane completed the scoring with a difficult pointed free. After the game Rebel Og Northern Board Secretary Peter Watson presented the trophy to the winning captain James Dunne.
