Kildorrery edge step closer

Kildorrery 0-18 Sarsfields 0-17

KILDORRERY moved a step closer to the knock-out stages County IHL Div 3 at Riverstown on Friday evening when they had a point to spare over the home side.

Exchanges were close all through with only a couple of points separating the sides on any occasion. Cian Darcy opened the scoring for the home side. Peter O’Brien Kildorrery’s top marksman replied in the third minute.

Good play by Sean Kelly led to a fine point by Peter O’Brien. The latter added another after a well placed puckout by Ian Butler who found Dylan Kent who passed to Peter O’Brien. Sarsfields had a point by Aidan Hackett after good play by Cian Darcy.

James Magnier made it 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of the Avondhu side after 10 minutes. James O’Leary and Dylan Kent swopped a point with Sars forcing level with points by Cormac Duggan and Aidan Hackett 0-7 each. There was an exchange of points with Sars finishing well with three late points that gave them an interval lead 0-13 to 0-10.

On the resumption good play by Niall McCarthy led to a Cian Darcy point. Peter O’Brien and Cian Darcy swopped a point as Kildorrery improved greatly. Good play by Andrew O’Brien to his brother Peter led to a fine point by Tiernan Condon 0-15 to 0-12.

Kildorrery had another point by Andrew O’Brien with Niall McCarthy pointing for Sarsfields. Kildorrery made a few changes they moved Andrew O’Brien to centre back and they closed down the Sarsfields attack who had just one more score in the last 16 minutes by Eoin Quigley.

The ‘Hill’ finished very well with five excellent points by Peter O’Brien that saw them edge in front in the closing moments. Sarsfields who had 16 wides over the hour to 8 for Kildorrery were unable to get the equalising point in the dying moments.

In this period they had three wides from scoring range. Best for Kildorrery were Ian Butler, Shane Fitzgerald, Sean Kelly, Dylan Kent and the O’Brien brothers Peter and Andrew.

For Sarsfields Edmund Gaffey Ray Ryan, James O’Leary, Niall McCarthy, Aidan Hackett, Cormac Duggan and Cian Darcy did well.
