Charleville see off Fermoy in a thriller

Charleville 0-15 Fermoy 2-8

CHARLEVILLE and Fermoy played out a thrilling game at Charleville on Thursday evening.

Ciaran Cagney with an early point opened the scoring. Good play by David Sheehan led to a fine point by Cathal O’Carroll. Jack Scannell opened Fermoy’s account in the sixth minute.

Fermoy came close to a goal but a superb save by Jamie Moloney from close range kept the home side in front. Michael O’Flynn stretched the lead with a pointed free. David Sheehan worked well for Ciaran Cagney who struck a fine point for the winners.

Fermoy had their first goal in the 13th minute when Alan Bargary worked well for Jack Scannell who netted. Charleville edged ahead again soon after. First Ciaran Cagney pointed a difficult free and Michael O’Flynn and Sean Buckley worked a good movement that led to a point by Kevin O’Connor.

There was an exchange of points with the home side being 0-9 to 1-4 clear at the break. On the restart Pa Boyce with two early frees levelled at 0-9 to 1- 6. Ciaran Cagney and Ronan Morrisson had them level again by the 38th minute.

Charleville did well in the backline and their forwards created a lot of chances. Ciaran Cagney and Michael O’Flynn (free) opened up a lead 0-12 to 1-7. In the 50th minute Cagney opened up a third point lead.

Fermoy had their second goal by Alan O’Connor who soloed through from midfield and netted 0-13 to 2- 7. Michael O’Flynn edged the Rathluirc side ahead with another free in the 56th minute.

A good delivery by Jamie Moloney found Aaron O’Connor who opened up a two point lead. In the closing moments Alan O’Connor pointed for Fermoy. Time ran out and it was Charleville who took the points by a single point.
