Second chance for Blarney and Cill na Martra footballers

-

THIS weekend the Muskerry GAA board were hoping to make significant progress in their premier championships in both hurling and football. It was anticipated that a number of games in the second chance stage of the junior hurling and football championships could be arranged. Unfortunately the demands of those in charge of inter-county teams appear to be thwarting the fixture making efforts of divisional boards and at the time of writing there is only one game in the Muskerry championship arena down for decision.

That particular encounter is at Muskerry junior football championship level and the participants Blarney and Cill na Martra are hoping to make amends for their first round championship defeats. Blarney were involved in a very competitive first round encounter with a fancied Ballincollig side when they were three points behind at the final whistle and they are certainly not a side to be underestimated.

Players like Cormac O’Mahony, Alan McEvoy, Peter Philpott, Joe Jordan and Paul O Leary are footballers who will make their presence felt in the best of company and they will be to the forefront of the team’s effort at gaining a victory on Sunday evening next at Coachford.

Their opponents Cill na Martra were well beaten in their first round outing when they faced reigning champions Kilmurry who were on top of their game with their forwards being particularly impressive on the day. Cill na Martra who will have the services of one of the clubs leading footballers Micháel Ó Deasúna in their ranks are hoping to give a good account of themselves on Sunday.

Blarney will enter the fray as favourites but we could witness and entertaining contest.
