SULTRY Cork chanteuse Camille O’Sullivan will play the Cork Opera House on Friday night under the umbrella of he Cork Midsummer Festival.
With a formidable reputation for her intensely dramatic interpretations of by artists including Jacques Briel, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and David Bowie , O’Sullivan has wowed audiences across the globe selling out venues including Sydney Opera House, Royal Festival Hall, La Clique, and preforming on ‘Later with Jools Holland’.
Dark, sexy, fierce and mesmerizing, Camille transforms each song she performs into a passionate, intense and emotional experience.

ENJOY SKA AND REGGAE WITH THE NAIL DRIVERS
THE wonderfully named Pontius Pilate and the Nail drivers will bring their infectious brand of eclectic music to the Crane Lane Theatre for a free late night gig Next Monday.
The Nail drivers have been playing together for more than a decade, energising audiences with their note perfect of covers from the seventies and eighties mixing covers by bands like The Specials, The Jam, The Beat, Madness and The Clash with their own original material.
While the music they play has been variously described as ska, reggae, punk and rock it is, in truth, a wonderful mix that takes the best bits from each genre to create a live sound that is guaranteed to get audiences up and dancing and set pulses racing.
ERIC LALOR BACK IN CORK FOR GIG AT DE BARRA’S
POPULAR Dublin comedian Eric Lalor will be back in Cork tonight (Thursday) for a gig at De Barra’s in Clonakilty.
Lalor’s first foray into comedy was as part of Des Bishop’s 2006 RTÉ TV show ‘Joy in the Hood’, when his first ever gig from his native Ballymun was broadcast to the nation. He subsequently supported Bishop on his sell-out ‘Fitting In’ tour.
Since then he has gone onto become one of the country’s most popular comedians, with his warm and energetic stage presence endearing him to audiences.
As well as touring his own live shows, Lalor has also pursued a successful acting career, including winning the Best Actor award at the 2017 London Ealing Festival.

DUBLIN CITY RAMBLERS TO PLAY CHARLEVILLE
LOVERS of Irish folk music are in for a treat this Saturday evening with the visit of the Dublin City Ramblers to the Charleville Park Hotel.
The renowned balladeers have thrilled audiences worldwide with their exciting mix of humour, ballads and toe-tapping music including a raft of hits such as ‘Punch and Judy Man’, ‘ The Ferryman’ and Ringsend Rose’.

GALWAY STREET CLUB TO PLAY CYPRUS AVENUE
THE superb Galway Street Club collective will play a gig at Cork’s Cyprus Avenue on Saturday night at 8pm.
A 13-piece collective with members hailing from Ireland, Spain, France, Germany, USA, Russia and Argentina, the group has taken Ireland and Europe by storm since their foundation in 2016.
Drawing together the cultural and musical backgrounds of each member, the band has cultivated their own, very unique sound that has earned them a steadily growing fan-base.
This is no more evident than on their first album of original material, ‘Sovereign State of Madness’, written and recorded over a period of two years.

SHANE CASEY’S ‘WET PAINT’ AT THE EVERYMAN
ACTOR and playwright Shane Casey, best known for his role as Billy Murphy in ‘ The Young Offenders’, will return to the stage at the Everyman Palace next week with his new play ‘Wet Paint’.
It’s 2005 and the country is booming. That blind opera singer guy is coming to Cork, Tony has a fresh tan from the Canaries, Pa is wondering how Liverpool will get on in the Champion’s League and Barry’s got a secret.
Inspired by his time as a painter decorator himself, Shane Casey’s very funny play depicts a day-in-the-life of two Cork painters and their boss during the Celtic Tiger era, when anything was possible - at least inside your head.

TALL TALE OF VENGEANCE AND FEATHERS IN CORK
THE Cork Arts Theatre will host three performances of Cork playwright Liam Heylin’s new Lex Talionis (A Tale of Vengeance and Feathers) from tonight as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival.
Hugh is an older rook with chicks on the way, Mooney is a younger rook whose new friend Max is not what she seems and Dónie is a magpie - and he is bad news.
When someone is murdered all hell breaks loose. There will be vengeance. That’s what the weird Latin title is about – the law of retaliation, an eye for an eye.
This is another play from the seriously funny Liam Heylin about savage craic on the streets of Cork City.

SUMMERTIME CONCERTS AT THE TRISKEL CENTRE
ACCLAIMED Irish percussionist Alex Petsu will play the first in a series of six summertime concerts by different artists at the Triskel Christchurch Arts Centre on Saturday at 1.10pm.
Entitled ‘An Exploration of Resonance’, Saturday’s concert will feature a fascinating mixture of instruments including bell plates, gongs, temple bowls, chimes and other unique instruments that Petcu has fashioned himself.
A freelance musician, Petsu has performed with a wide variety of ensembles in a range of venues and as a soloist at various festivals and theatres.

STRAWHALL HOUSE BAND LIVE AND ACOUSTIC
THE Strawhall House Band will play an acoustic gig ‘Upstairs’ at the White Horse in Ballincollig next Thursday evening.
Featuring Fiacre Gaffney (vocals and guitar), Jack Maher (vocals and guitar), Mark Penny (vocals and piano) and Vinny Kilcullen (bass) the band are renowned for their versions of songs by great ‘Americana’ songwriters such as Lowell George, John Hiatt and Guy Clarke.
Last year the band released their long-awaited debut album ‘Six Days in May’, to widespread critical acclaim. Comprised of 11 new songs, the album was recorder and produced by David Odlum.

A TALE OF LOVE AND OCD WITH FRED AND ALICE
THE Friars Gate Theatre in Kilmallock will hosts a one-off performance of the Call Back Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of ‘Fred and Alice – Love in the Time of OCD’ next Wednesday evening.
Written and directed by John Sheehy the plays stars Ciaran Bermingham and Cora Fenton as a quirky couple, both of whom have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and is a touching and comic look at two characters who live every day as if it’s exceptional.
