ATHLETIC CLUB NOTES

GOOD WEEKEND AT MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIPS: Saturday and Sunday last were Munster Juvenile U14 to 19 Championships and Qualifying Events for the All — Ireland Championships. The competitions were held at RSC Track in Waterford in the sunny South East. Eleven of our athletes made the long journey and while not all of them were in the medals at the end, they all got a taste of competition and put in good displays. Of those who did not win a medal, they can compete in the Munster B Championships and the All — Ireland B Championships later in the year.

At U14 Emma Lehane, while competing well, did not get on the podium but qualified to go forward in the 200m. Amy Whelan U15 competed in the javelin, winning silver and discus where she qualified for the All — Ireland. Aoife O=92Sullivan U16 was in top form when she won gold in the high jump.

Sophie Perrott U16 competed in five events, winning a bronze medal in shotput and 5th in discus. Joe Ivory U16 did well in the javelin to finish in 2nd place for silver. Anna Kellegher U18 has qualified for the All — Irelands in the 1500m with a 4th place finish and in the 800m in which she won the bronze. Vickie Cusack U19 competing in her final juvenile championships collected four medals in four events. She won the long jump, shotput and javelin for three gold medals and added a silver in the triple jump.

Athletes who also competed but were unsuccessful despite good performances were Isobel Kellegher U13 who competed in 800m and 1500m. Irene Kellegher U15 who was in 100m, 200m and long jump, Aoife O=92Brien U15 the 200m, 800m and long jump and Ria Murphy U16 who competed in 100m sprint and long jump. This means that seven athletes have qualified to compete in 10 events in the All — Irelands in July.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The next meeting of the Kilbrin Community Council will take place on the second Tuesday in July.

FOR OIGE.

The For Oige club has been ran in Kilbrin over the last number of years with weekends away, gatherings and had many events for our teenagers. We would like to thank Catriona and Edel for organising all of these events and for their dedication over these years. They are however moving on and as a community we must decide if we want to keep this very valuable club going. If you are interested in getting involved please contact Catriona on 0871245472. Without volunteers at this juncture this club will cease to exist and that would be a great shame so we would ask everyone to give it your consideration.

PLAYGROUND NOTICE

Can we please ask that people using the playground are mindful to keep it tidy. There is a notice on the gate in relation to this and we would ask that people appreciate that the upkeep is on a voluntary basis. Now that the Summer holidays are upon us we expect the playground to be extra busy so please keep it in a condition that we would like to find it.

CONTACT DETAILS

The community council can be contacted at kilbrincc@gmail. com if you have any queries.

Also the PRO can be contacted directly at Bennymick1968@ gmail.com if you have anything of interest for this column. Whether you are at home or abroad we would be delighted to hear from you.
