Inchigeelagh floodworks ‘not before 2023’

-

THERE is a lack of urgency on the part of Government with regard to the flood relief works on the Upper Lee at Inchigeelagh, according to Local TD Aindrias Moynihan.

Deputy Moynihan was commenting after raising the issue with the Minister for the OPW and Flood Relief, Kevin Boxer Moran in the Dáil.

“Last month, the local communities in Inchigeelagh and Ballingeary were disappointed to find out that this project would not be part of the first tranche of flood relief works under the Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM) programme.

CFRAM includes 118 schemes across the country that have been deemed as necessary to reduce the threat and impact of flooding.

“The Minister didn’t seem to understand the absolute necessity for this project to be commenced as soon as possible,” said Deputy Moynihan.

“It’s a €2.56 million project but its value for homeowners, farmers and local businesses will be many multiples of this.

“This proposed scheme consists of flood walls and embankments and will protect 28 properties when completed,” he also noted.
