Roads melting

- MARIA HERLIHY

THE hot weather proved to be a tad too much for some roads around Macroom as staff were busy gritting melted tar.

Blarney Macroom Municipal District Senior Executive Engineer James Dwyer said that tar melting on roads was a national issue since the country was gripped in a heatwave. “Any complaints we have received, we have treated the roads with grit,” he said. He added that they had treated affected roads at Gorthalicky (near Kelleher’s Oil at Clondrohid), Rath, and also did the stretch of road from Kilnamartyra to Ballyvoge, and at Dromree. The stretch of road from Ballyfinnane Bridge to the Top of Coom was also done, as was a stretch of road at Rusheen and Mossgrove.
