Lucey takes chair at district council

THE former chairman of the Blarney Macroom Municipal District, who stepped down from his role after his term ended, has been elected vice-chairperso­n for the year.

Cllr Kevin Conway (Ind) thanked all the staff and executive at the council for their co-operation over the past year. He especially thanked all of the engineers and staff, who he said “made the job flow very easily.”

He also thanked the reporters who attend the monthly sessions in Macroom.

Cllr Ted Lucey (FG) was elected chairperso­n for the year and Mr Conway was elected vice-chairman. Cllr Lucey thanked Cllr Conway for holding “very balanced and fair meetings”. With a smile, he said: “Hopefully now we will all get on well and have a great term in office, although there are (local) elections later on.”
