THE Willie Neenan Memorial Five-Mile Race brought enthusiastic numbers to the starting line, with international athlete Lizzie Lee taking the ladies title and her Leevale club colleague Conor McAuley landing the men’s equivalent.

Not for the first time, the sunshine beamed down, again a brilliant atmosphere surrounded the staging. The athletes earned a terrific reception over the course and at the finishing line.

The staging was a fitting tribute to Willie’s memory and his contribution to athletics over a lifetime. And a great friend, Fr Paddy Byrne, former US coach, donated a magnificent perpetual cup in his memory.

Meanwhile, the ladies winner received the inaugural Richard and Chris Kiely Memorial Cup. Organisers’ thanks are extended to the stewards, volunteers, gardaí and helpers for making the race another outstanding success.
