Milford win high-scoring clash with Liscarroll / Churchtown

Milford 7-18 Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels 4-15

THIS 13-a-side Cavanagh’s Fermoy Div 3 HL game at Milford on Tuesday evening was highly entertaini­ng and very high scoring.

Milford opened well with a goal by Peter Kirwan and some well taken points by Jim Maher as they led 1-3 to 0-0 after 9 minutes. Peter Crowley had three pointed frees for the Gaels with Damian Stokes also pointing. Further pressure saw Sean Healy add a point.

In the 17th minute impressive John Cremin cut through and placed Peter Kirwan for a point. The sides were level 1-4 to 0-7. Good play by John Cremin led to a great save by David Collins with the rebound going out to Paudie O’Brien who goaled.

Rory Biggane and Jim Maher added points as Milford moved 2-6 to 0-7 clear. The winners had their third goal when Paudie O’Brien put Jim Maher through 3-7 to 0-7. Both sides exchanged points with Peter Kirwan finding the net 4 -9 to 0-8. In the 23rd minute Paddy Barrett goaled for the Gaels. There was an exchange of points with Milford ahead 4-13 to 1-10 at the break.

On the resumption Paddy Barrett was denied by a splendid save by Charlie Collins. Rory Biggane worked well for Jim Maher who made it 5- 13 to 1-10. Peter Crowley and John Cremin swapped a point with Barrett having a goal 5-14 to 2-11.

Gaels keeper David Collins saved well from Jim Maher on two occasions. Jim Maher and Peter Crowley exchanged a point 5-15 to 2- 12. Gaels had another goal with Paddy Barrett and Aidan Murphy with points cutting the lead 5-15 to 3-14.

Good play by Ethan Evans to Ronan Lehane led to another goal for Gaels by Alan McCarthy 5-15 to 4-14. Just when it looked as if the Gaels might get on top it was John Cremin now back in defence who pointed and followed with good play for Jim Maher who made it 6-16 to 4-14.

Maher had Milford’s seventh goal and they held out for a win by 7-18 to 4-15.
