Big win for fast-moving Boherbue

Boherbue 1-24 Castlemagner 1-6

A FAST moving Boherbue encountered few problems from Castlemagner to a one sided E Tarrant & Sons Skoda Duhallow JAFC at a sun-splashed Newmarket.

In doing so, the defending champions made a bold statement of their intentions, raising their game to levels where Castlemagner failed to reach. Nobody could question Castlemagner’s work-rate or resolve yet they found it difficult to dislodge a solid Boherbue combination.

Right from the start, Boherbue put together delightful passages of football, a David O’Connor goal pushed the holders ahead 1-5 to 0-0 ahead inside 10 minutes. For a spell, Castlmagner succeeded on weathering the storm on points to Seán Falvey and James Sherlock.

Still Boherbue measured up to the test, the work-rate of Niall Murphy, Michael O’Connor, Adrian Murphy and Jerry O’Connor hugely influential. Points to the O’Connors, Murphy and Daniel Buckley pushed Boherbue into a commanding position.

In fairness, Castlemagner hauled themselves back into contention, Conor Murphy converted a penalty to trim the arrears 1-13 to 1-3 at the break. That score lifted Castlemagner to show a renewed burst of vigour upon the resumption through the endeavours of Donal Gayer, Evan O’Sullivan, Falvey and Sherlock.

A trio of points from Falvey, Sherlock and Matt O’Sullivan offered semblance of a rally though injuries upset Castlemagner’s rhythm.

On the opposite side, Boherbue’s ball retention, support play and finishing proved superior with David O’Connor, Denis McCarthy and Andrew O’Connor splitting the uprights.

Again Castlemagner weren’t prepared to roll over, Boherbue custodian Kevin Murphy deflected a close range shot from Daniel Murphy.

With Castlemagner failing to raise a flag during the later 10 minutes, Boherbue kept the scoreboard ticking nicely to ensure a comfortable outcome at the long whistle.

Ultimately, Boherbue held too much fire-power and experience, their counterparts lacked a cutting edge.

On doing so, Castlemagner exit the championship with Boherbue joining Cullen, Dromtariffe and Lyre in search of silverware.
