Ballygibli­n claim vital victory over Kilshannig

THIS was a vital Cavanagh’s Fermoy Div 1 HL game at Glantane on Thursday evening. The winners were guaranteed a place in the semi finals.

The game was very keenly contested with the sides level 0-1, 0-2, 0-3, 0-4 and 0-5 each by the 18th minute. Kilshannig had a chance of a goal from a penalty, but Dermot Twomey opted to take the point.

Ballygibli­n hit the front with points by Sean O’Sullivan and Cathal O’Mahony. Dermot Twomey replied for the home side. Good play for Ballygibli­n by James Mullins found Cathal O’Mahony who opened up a two point lead 0-8 to 0- 6.

Points by Trevor O’Regan helped level the score at 0-10 each. Mark Keane with a free edged Ballygibli­n in front once more. Kilshannig had a goal by Trevor O’Regan with Kevin O’Flynn following with a point 1-11 to 0-11.

Seán O’Sullivan closed the gap for Ballygibli­n. In injury time a sideline cut by Kieran Twomey led to a great Tadhg O’Sullivan point as Kilshannig led at the break 1-13 to 0-12.

On the changeover Mark Keane and Kevin O’Flynn swopped pointed frees. Kilshannig moved 1-17 to 0-14 clear after 42 minutes. From here on Ballygibli­n got on top. They defended very well and with Mark keane in great scoring form they had some massive points.

Good play by George Pendle led to a Mark Keane goal as the winners moved 1-18 to 1- 15 clear. Kilshannig had a goal by John Quinn in the 57th minute. Points by George Pendle and Mark Keane ensured victory for Ballygibli­n by a three point margin.
