Hard luck for Killavulle­n

Bride Rovers 5-8 Killavulle­n 3-9

BRIDE Rovers were forced to withstand a great last quarter by Killavulle­n in the Rebel Og North Under 16 A HC at Ballygibli­n on Monday evening.

The Rovers were very impressive in the opening quarter and they led 2-3 to 0- 0. They had their goals in the opening five minutes by Tom Mackey and Adam Walsh after good play by Edmund Cashman.

Further pressure yielded three points. Killavulle­n had their opening score by their inspiratio­nal midfielder Darragh O’Grady. The East Cork side had their 3rd goal in the 25th minute by Edmund Cashman. At the break the winners led 3-3 to 0-2.

Killavulle­n improved greatly on the changeover. Darragh O’Grady had two early points. In the 37th minute good play by Patrick O’Grady led to Darragh O’Grady finding the net. The latter followed with another point as the lead was down to four points 3-3 to 1-5.

Rovers regrouped well and four quick fire points by Adam Hayes (3) and Adam Walsh had the East Cork side 3-7 to 1-5 clear. In the 44th minute good play by Adam Walsh led to a goal by Denis Cashman as Rovers pushed 11 points clear 4-7 to 1-5.

Edmund Cashman linked up with Josh Aherne who pointed. The last quarter was all Killavulle­n with the Rovers having a single score a goal by Edmund Cashman in the 52nd minute.

Jamie Magnier pointed and Darragh O’Grady followed with a pointed free. Darragh O’Grady cut through the Rovers defence and struck a great goal. O’Grady with a pointed free cut the lead 5-8 to 2-8.

In the last few minutes Killavulle­n forced three close in frees. O’Grady struck for goals with all three efforts. They first two were well saved. The final 21 metre free in the 59yh minute found its way to the net.

Bride Rovers held out for a five point win in the end.
