All too easy for Dromtariffe v Kanturk

-

ALL too easy for Dromtariffe on running out the easiest of winners over Kanturk in the E Tarrant & Sons Skoda Duhallow JAFC Round 3 at Boherbue.

Quite simply, the winners were in a different class, from start to finish, Dromtariffe controlled the game and never relented in their search for scores. Short a number of players, Kanturk’s second string combination will be disappointed on the way the game panned out, their inability to rise to the impressive tempo set by Dromtariffe and it left Kanturk facing a battle they could never match.

From the off, Dromtariffe started at pace with Evan Murphy in excellent shooting form. Kanturk attempted to play their way into the game, Dromtariffe ‘keeper Dan Mann alert to deny Seán Kerrigan.

Still Dromtariffe held a degree or two of more polish, Cormac O’Mahony, Con O’Callaghan, Jack Murphy and Tomás Howard strong and persuasive in defence, Adam Buckley and Seamus O’Sullivan busy around midfield with Denis O’Donoughue, Daniel O’Keeffe and Murphy knocking over points from different angles.

Indeed, Dromtariffe might well had added a goal or two, Kanturk custodian Michael Hartnett vigilant on erasing dangerous situations. A goal did surface, Conor O’Callaghan, the instigator for O’Keeffe to finish superbly.

And it got better for the men in red, O’Callaghan’s initial effort saved only for Killian O’Sullivan follow up to raise a green flag. In fairness, Kanturk deserved a score and it came from a powerful Kerrigan volley to find the roof of the net to cut the deficit 2-13 to 1-2 at the interval.

That score lifted Kanturk for a spell upon the restart, the play of John Buckley, Chris Mullane and Barry Kenneally offered encouragement as did a pair of points from Cathal Burke.

However Dromtariffe remained unperturbed as O’Donoughue and O’Keeffe added points.

Again as the game aged, Dromtariffe continued to look a different class, displaying a facility to carve out the openings and picking off scores. Going forward, Dromtariffe had greater spread of scorers, substitute Gearóid Murphy at the end of a move to net before O’Keeffe delivered a duplicate score.

Victory saw Dromtariffe return to winning ways after a defeat by Boherbue in the Ducon Cup Final. For Kanturk, back to back defeats sees them exit the championship.
