Macroom GAA Under15s edge out Aghabullogue in last minutes in championship thriller

- MacrooM Gaa round- up

U-15 Championship: Macroom 6-9, Aghabullogue 3-13.

MACROOM snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Aghabullogue in this most exciting first round match in the Castle Grounds. Macroom trailed by five points with five minutes to go but eventually scored an amazing 3-2 to Aghabullogue’s solitary point, to win by five points.

Aghabullogue started well and led by 1-3 to no score after 10 minutes. Two goals by Kieran Doody in the last 10 minutes of the first half enabled Macroom to draw level by half-time, 2-3 to 1-6.

Macroom re-started brightly and tacked on 1-4 to 0-3 in the third quarter, with the goal coming from Conor Seery. However, Aghabullogue took over and scored 2-3 without reply in the next 10 minutes.

All the excitement came down to the last five minutes with Macroom’s goals coming from Ben O’ Connell (2) and Mark Hunt. Ben O’Connell’s first goal deserves special mention as he soloed 60 yards to score a great goal when defeat was looming large.

U-11S, Challenge:

MACROOM 3-13, Aghabullogue 5-7. Macroom U11s played a very entertaining draw with Aghabullogue in Tom Creedon Park. Scores were scarce early but both teams settled down and notched some fine scores.

MINORS, challenge: The minors played Éire Óg in Tom Creedon Park and were well outscored in the first half but they improved in the second period. Éire Óg proved too strong.

U-14S: Fintan Goold took the team for a training session last Friday. He concentrated on skills and concentration and finished with a match.

GOALKEEPING Clinic: James O’Connell, the great club stalwart, took the club’s young goalkeepers for a clinic.

He spent several hours imparting his considerable wisdom and knowledge. Many attended from the U13s down but less from the U- 13 to U-18s. Jonah Dervin and Reece Lee learned much.
