Busy week on the road for O’Leary Stone Kanturk cyclists

LAST week was a busy one for the O’Leary Stone Kanturk Cycling Club.

On Tuesday night the final night of the Hennessy Cycles Fermoy Cycling Club league took place. After 11 weeks of great racing the following members were in the top 6 prizes: Seniors: 1st Tom Moriarty, 5th Daniel Lynch. U16 2nd Arnaud Dumoulin, 6th James Aspell; U14 1st David Shine, 2nd Ewen McConville, 3rd Patrick Morley, 4th Sean Tarrant, 6th Luke Moynihan; U12 1st Stephen Sheehan, 2nd Willem O’Connor 4th Michael Nolan.

Following on from this the youths headed to Tournafull­a on Sunday for their first time run in the JJ Kenneally 2 stage race hosted by Newcastle West Cycling Club. This consisted of a time trial followed by a road race 9km for U12, 24km for U14 and 36km for U16.

In the girls section Lucy O’Donnell won both the time trial and road race, bringing home the

girls yellow jersey. In the U12 Willem O’Connor won the time trial and the road race. Re-sults for the road race: U12 1st Willem O’Connor, 2nd Stephen Sheehan, 6th Max Fitzgerald; U14 1st David Shine, 4th Luke Moynihan, 5th Ewen McConville; U16 1st Tom Moriarty, 4th Sean Barrett, 6th Daniel Yonhin.

Next weekend sees them head to Errigal in Co. Donegal for the annual Errigal Internatio­nal Youth Tour. This sees over 200 competitor­s from near and far compete over four stages. O’Leary Stone Kanturk Club have teams in each age category: U12 Max Fitzgerald and Michael Nolan with Willem O’Connor and Stephen Sheehan on the Munster Academy team. In U14 O’Leary Stone team of Ewen McConville, Patrick Morley, Luke Moynihan and Sean Tarrant. David Shine and Quillan Donnelly will ride for Team Ireland.

The 16 sees team O’Leary Stone consist of Tom Moriarty, Sean Barrett, Arnaud Dumoulin, Luke Thompson, Ruairi Murphy, Ronan Leahy, Liam Crowley, and James Aspell. Daniel Yonhin represents the club on the Ireland team and Lucy O’Donnell cycles on the Ireland team girls U16. We wish them all good luck and safe cycling over the weekend.
