Leaving Cert 2018: The results are out and we see many happy faces
6,462 CORK STUDENTS PICKED UP THEIR LEAVING CERT RESULTS ON WEDNESDAY MORNING
While the common sense adage that ‘ there is something for everyone’ has taken a significant amount of pressure off students in recent years, nevertheless for those who have their hearts set on a particular course or career, opening that brown envelope containing their Leaving Cert results is indeed a daunting task.
According to the principals of schools across Duhallow, all students were really happy with their results and with the first hurdle behind them now they await news of their college places.
At Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk, Principal Miriam Downey said staff were delighted with the results. “We congratulate students and teachers on these excellent results with almost 30% of students scoring in excess of 500 points and three achieving 590 points. We wish them well in their future chosen careers” Miriam said.
Meanwhile, across town at Coláiste Treasa, Principal John Murphy echoed that sentiment and added that management and staff were very proud of all the students. “13 students achieved over 500 points, eight students achieved over 550 and one student got 613 points. All 90 Leaving Cert students were overjoyed with their results and the majority are looking forward to begin their college courses while others are taking up positions in PLC courses or apprenticeships,” John said.
At Boherbue Comprehensive, retiring Principal Mary O’Keeffe is going out on a high with two students achieving maximum points and 24% of the class scoring between 500 and 600 points. “This is a testament to the hard work of our students, staff and parents. We wish them the very best for the future”. Mary said.
Two girls at Boherbue Comprehensive hit the jackpot with 600 points each. Roisín Murphy, who will go on to study physiotherapy at UL said that she was “shocked and delighted” with her results. Lena Sheehan, who also achieved 600 points, will pursue pharmacy studies at UCC. “I wasn’t expecting to do this well, I’m absolutely delighted,” Lena said.
Ewan O’Sullivan was thrilled to get enough points for what he wants to do and Sarah O’Connor was also delighted when she opened her envelope.
“I’m so happy, I just can’t get over it,” said Shauna O’Neill when she realised she had achieved sufficient points to pursue the course of her choice, while John Walsh exclaimed that he was “over the moon” when he opened his results.
Happily, these were common reactions among the 6,462 Cork students collecting their results on Wednesday morning while those who were disappointed with their results were left with plenty of options to proceed from here.
