DROMTARRIFFE FARMER’S DITTY ON ICE CREAM CONES LANDS LUXURY STAY AT STADIUM ON EVE OF THE ALL-IRELAND FINAL

- JOHN TARRANT

THE longing for a cone on a hot summer’s day led a Dromtarriffe farmer, John Linehan to compose a ditty which won him and his family a unique sleepover at Croke Park prior to this Sunday’s All Ireland hurling final.

John Linehan and his family won’t have any problems getting match tickets either as they come with the prize.

John scooped the Littlewoods Ireland Ultimate Croke Park Sleepover in conjunction with Today FM. “The subject was to commentate on a family holiday [and] I got thinking of cones that we get usually at Coleman’s in Millstreet”, he said. While on his tractor, John recorded the three-minute composition that caught the imagination of the team at Today FM to land the top prize worth a staggering €15,000.

On All-Ireland final weekend, their big prize suite at Croker will be turned into a luxury penthouse complete with living room, master bedroom and bathroom. Each space will be furnished with top of the range Littlewoods Ireland products.

And not only will the winners be sleeping in one of the most iconic stadiums in Europe, but every product in their suite – from couches and beds to the latest fashion looks – will be theirs to take home.

ON a hot summer’s day, what better accompaniment during a break or after a hurling match than the humble ice cream cone?

That delightful cone inspired Dromtarriffe farmer John Linehan to compose a ditty that’s won a unique sleepover in Croke Park prior to the all-Ireland hurling final this Sunday.

With Limerick and Galway fans reaching a state of feverish excitement in search of tickets for the big game, there’s no such problem for the Linehan family who have scooped the ‘Littlewoods Ireland’s Ultimate Croke Park Sleepover’ run in conjunction with Today FM.

The fashion, sportswear, electrical and homeware retailer sponsored the competition, giving one lucky family of four the experience of a lifetime to wake up in a luxury suite in Croke Park on the morning of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final.

“We were stunned and over the moon to win, it came as a huge shock,” beamed a delighted John.

“Today FM ran the competition; the task was to undertake a hurling-style commentary on a chosen topic.

“The subject was to commentate on a family holiday. I work part-time with O’Flynn Medical and stopped in traffic; I got thinking of cones that we get usually at Coleman’s in Millstreet”, he said.

On his tractor, John recorded the three-minute composition that caught the imagination of the team at Today FM to land the daily prize.

Daily winners were invited to Dublin in search of a grand prize, and the Linehans cracked the sliotars to grab the star symbols and nab the ultimate prize.

On All-Ireland final weekend, their big prize suite at Croker will be turned into a luxury penthouse complete with living room, master bedroom and bathroom.

So not only will the winners be sleeping in one of the most iconic stadiums in Europe, but every product in their suite – from couches and beds to the latest fashion looks – will be theirs to take home.

Their prize – valued at €15,000 – will give the GAA-obsessed Linehan family unprecedented access to the heart and soul of the GAA.

On the eve of the most anticipated game of the season, Littlewoods Ireland ambassador and former Kilkenny hurler Jackie Tyrrell will begin the experience with a VIP tour of Croke Park.

For good measure, the Lenihan family will also receive four tickets to the All-Ireland Hurling Finals, an invitation to an exclusive Littlewoods Ireland event before the game and an overnight stay in the adjacent four-star Croke Park Hotel on Sunday night.

“It promises to be a great occasion, and with a Munster county involved, I will have to support Limerick,” said John, a former chairman of Dromtarriffe GAA.

After a dizzying summer of hurling and a trip to Croke Park,, John and family surely deserve a cone!
