Rail tickets for Phoenix Park Papal Mass almost sold-out

- BILL BROWNE

PEOPLE planning to travel by rail from Cork to the Papal Mass in Phoenix Park on Sunday, August 26 have been warned that seats on services running on the day are already almost completely booked out.

Iarnród Éireann has warned people not to delay booking their return tickets for the regular and special Intercity services on the day, saying that only a few seats remain unsold on the Cork-Dublin route.

“Advance booking of all Intercity train travel for the Papal Mass is mandatory and the company is keen to stress that tickets will not be available for sale on the day. There will be no access for anyone to Intercity trains who does not have a ticket or reservation,” said a spokesperson.

“We are advising people to book their tickets at www.irishrail.ie or on 01 8366222 as soon as possible as they will sell out.”

The spokesperson said that existing ticket holders, including free travel and season ticket holders, will also need to book in advance online or by phone.

Those travelling by Intercity should also note that due to high demand customers must travel on the train they book and seats will not be allocated, so please take any available spaces,” said the spokesperson.

Extra DART and commuter services will operate in Dublin before and after the Mass, with tickets holders for the event travelling within the Short Hop Zone allowed to use these free of charge.

“We cannot stress enough how essential it is for customers to book Intercity travel in advance. In addition, with Dublin area road restrictions, our extensive DART and Commuter service together with free travel in the Dublin area for those with Papal Mass tickets mean you can travel to all access points conveniently,” said the spokesperson.
