Laochra Óg u-16 boys write club into the history books vs St Pats

-

TUESDAY August 7 - As the sun settled over Teerbeg this evening our U9 girls played a very strong Aghabullogue side.

It was a game of three twelve minutes a side and as the game progressed we found our feet and showed great teamwork and spirit. Many thanks to Paula and her team for coming out to us , thanks to our referee Daniel, our sponsor Matt Murphy Pharmacy and as always Nora and Michael McCarthy of Glenview Motors & Glenmill Restaurant for the use of Teerbeg.

Wednesday, August 8 - Not the result we were looking for this evening we live to fight another day but when you go out to take on a team like Blarney in championship you need to be prepared and that we were not. With only a goal separating the teams at half time we felt hopeful but at the resumption our dreams quickly faded as Blarney showed their dominance and out played us all over the field. We can put this down as a learning curve and rise above it and get back out on the pitch and learn to take control of our destination. Wishing Blarney all the best going forward. Special thanks to Deasy’s pharmacy for getting behind us as our main sponsors again for the next few years. Laochra og here to play here to stay.

Friday, August 10 - Well done to our Under 10 boys whom put in a great performance again tonight against a very good Diarmuid ó Mathúna’s side fighting back from being down at half time to coming away with a very hard-fought win.

Great to see the new players developing all the time and all the lads performing as a team. Parents support on the side-line a factor that always helps thanks to them, our referee Daniel and again our sponsors FOLLÁIN deserve our continued support.

Sunday August 12 - U16 Rebel Óg West Hurling Championship final. Laochra Óg 3-13

St. Patrick’s 1-10. Our U16 boys wrote themselves into the history books yesterday by winning the club’s first ever piece of silverware in Annahala against a strong and skilful west Cork side. Laochra Óg started brightly with a fantastic point from centre back Ciaran Lucey. The exchanges were very even and tough. St Pats were first to hit the net but soon after Jack Sexton responded when he was first to react when the St. Pats keeper failed to clear his lines. Half time score 1-6 to 1-5.

St. Pats upped the tempo in the second half and scored three unanswered points and at this stage were in control.

Our boys never panicked and with Eoin Healy having the game of his life between the posts we worked our way back to parity and into a four-point lead. James Slattery unerring with frees and 65’s. Anthony Lynch with two inspirational scores.

Brian Healy scoring 1-3. The introduction of Danny Kelly worked wonders as he created havoc for the St. Pats full back line and when he netted the third goal the cup was heading for west Muskerry. The work rate and commitment from our boys was a joy to see, all playing their hearts out for the club. Congratulations to all the boys on a superb performance. Thanks to St. Patrick’s for a fine sporting game and to our sponsor M & J Kelleher.
