Everyone’s a winner as Mallow United host their ‘Football For All’

-

ST Gobnaits Park played host to Mallow United’s Football For All Blitz and there was a vibrant atmosphere at the southside venue as FAI rolled into town to celebrate this year’s Festival of Football.

With participants in attendance from Killarney Celtic, Kerry Stars Special Olympics, Mallow United and Mallow Special Olympics there was excellent footballing talent on show with the games divided across three separate age groups.

Among the attendees from the FAI were CEO John Delaney, President Tony Fitzgerald and former international Stephen Hunt, who joined in on the footballing action. The guests were warmly received by the players and supporters, and presented a special commemorative medal for the day to each player.

Mallow United chairman Tim Barrett and Football for All co-ordinator spoke on behalf of the club, emphasising the importance of inclusiveness at Mallow United, a club that belongs to the community and welcomes all members of the community.

John Delaney congratulated all the participants who took part on the day and commended the club on the work they have done in making the game of soccer accessible to children of all abilities and promoting inclusion in sport. Delaney also paid a special tribute to long term Mallow United club man John O’Connell, who has been an active member of the club for 60 years, and the FAI invited John to join them as a VIP guest at an upcoming Irish international in the autumn, an honour well deserved.
