Special ‘eye-opener day’ at Centre Stage school in Mallow

-

ON Saturday, August 25, from 11am to 3pm, the enthusiastic teachers at Centre Stage School, Bellevue (across from the Arches Bar and restaurant) will be conducting free 30-minute taster classes in a range of different disciplines: Modern Dance, Ballet, Musical Theatre and many more.

It all kicks off in Studio One at 11am with Twinkle Toes Ballet, which is aimed at three-to-five-year-olds and introduces the children to Ballet through games, songs and exercises. This is a firm favourite with budding ballerinas and classes in recent years and filled up quickly. This taster class is a good chance for parents and children to see what is involved.

This is followed by Intro to Jazz (five-to-seven years) at 11.45am, which combines elements of lyrical and hip hop dance and is a must for any young dancer who wants to experience this style of dance.

At 12.30pm Theatre Tots (three-tofive years), which is a combination of singing, acting and dancing, will be demonstrated and is a great option for little performers who are interested in all aspects of the stage. Modern Dance (five-to-eight years) will take to the floor at 1.15pm and concentrates on the type of steps and movement most commonly associated with musical theatre productions.

And finally in Studio One, a Ballet class will be held for nine-to-13-yearolds in order to give this age group a taste of this most elegant of art forms.

In Studio Two, they begin at 11.15am with Musical Theatre (for six-to-nine years), and this encompasses singing, dancing and acting.

Modern Dance (for nine-to-13 years) will follow this at 12 noon; Musical Theatre (10 years +) at 12.45pm; Jazz Dance (eight-to-12 years) at 1.30pm; and finally Jazz Dance (13 years+) at 2.15pm.

In their third studio, they will have a demonstration of a new class, a ‘Pop Singing’ class at 11am for 10-to15-year-olds.

A Drama class for six-to-nineyearat 11.45am will show some of the games and exercises drama students perform in order to prepare for performances at Feis Maitiu and for LAMDA exams later in the year.

At 12.30pm there’s a Pop Singing class (for seven-to-nine years), and finally a Drama Class (for nine years +) at 1.15pm rounds up the programme for the day. This is a great opportunity for students who have never been at Centre Stage School to see what classes are available and which of these classes would be of most benefit to them.

It is also a chance for current students to try out a new class they have never undertaken before.
