Mitchelsto­wn win, but Ballygibli­n fall to surprise defeat

MITCHELSTO­WN’S Under-16 footballer­s had a good win over Éire Óg in the County Premier (2) Football Championsh­ip at Glenville on Thursday evening.

The local side played well; they led at the break by five points.

There was an exchange of goals early in the second half. Eventually ‘ Town’ won out by 5-9 to 3-9.

Mitchelsto­wn now face Fermoy in the quarter-final on Monday, August 20.

The team against Éire Óg was: Michael Roche, Aidan O’Shea, Jack O’Shea, Cameron Keane, Sean O’Connell, Ryan Donegan, Stephen Kenneally, Padraigh Finn, Aaron O’Brien, Dylan Sheehan, Cormac Keane-Hyland, Daniel Harte, Paddy Hanrahan, Tommy Dalton, Darragh O’Flynn. Subs used were: Leon Murphy for Darragh Flynn (blood); and Darragh O’Flynn for Dylan Sheehan.

Ballygibli­n Minor A hurlers were surprising­ly beaten by Kilshannig in the Rebel Óg Northern Region Minor A Hurling Championsh­ip semi final at Doneraile on Tuesday evening.

Ballygibli­n were forced to line out without key player Mark Keane.

At half-time Kilshannig led 2-8 to 1-6.

Ballygibli­n got the lead down to two points in the closing moments, 2-10 to 2-8.

Kilshannig, with four late points, advanced to the final.

The team against Kilshannig was: Jody Finn, James Crotty, Sean O’Connell, Jack Burke, Diarmuid Mulqueen, Seamus Coleman, Colin Brennock, Christy O’Sullivan, Darragh O’Flynn (1-5, 1-2f ), Ryan Donegan, Troy Millea, James Coughlan (0-1), Diarmuid O’Gorman, Conor Cahill (1-0), Adam Gubbins (0-2).
