New journeys begin at IT Tralee

Our College places special emphasis on preparing our graduates for the workplace however we have in addition establishe­d progressio­n links from our courses to Third Level Colleges in Ireland and the UK, facilitati­ng the advancemen­t of our graduates to Higher Education. It’s that wonderful time of year again when colleges all over Ireland reopen their doors to old, new and foreign students alike.

This week, thousands of students across Ireland will begin their college journey by accepting a place at a third level institutio­n.

Some 3,500 students will pursue programmes at IT Tralee in 2018/2019 so the Institute is well prepared for the challenges and exciting times facing students.

Speaking to students who will accept a college place at IT Tralee, Vice President for Research, Developmen­t and External Engagement at IT Tralee Bríd McElligott said: “IT Tralee prides itself on maintainin­g a great staff-student relationsh­ip. Lecturers and class tutors are there to help you so engage with them and ask questions!

We also have a wide range of support services open to all of our registered students such as our on-campus health centre, Chaplaincy, student counsellin­g service, careers office and access office, all in place to help you get the most out of your college experience.”

Also busily working throughout the summer to ensure students get the most out of their time at IT Tralee is newly elected President of the IT Tralee Students Union Jessica Murphy. Speaking to The Kerryman, Jessica said: “Beginning first year of college can be a daunting experience but it’s important to know that you are not alone! Everyone is starting off on a new foot and there are plenty of ways that you can get involved with college life.

“Your student experience is much more than essays and exams, join a club or society, take part in events ran by the students’ union, get to know your roommates and make the most out of your time in college!”

IT Tralee has over 30 sports clubs to choose from. From a selection of GAA teams, Soccer, and Rugby, to Tennis and Surfing - the choice is extensive. Competitiv­e and recreation­al sports are catered for, giving IT Tralee students a great opportunit­y to be part of a team and to make new friends.

Likewise, societies play a huge part of student life at IT Tralee. With over 25 active societies there is something for everyone. Societies range from Film to Photograph­y, Art, Music and Radio, to the Young Agricultur­al Engineers Society and Irish Sign Language.

Students enrolling at IT Tralee in September will enjoy full access to the €17.5m Kerry Sports Academy, which is on track to be completed in the first quarter of 2019. From the high performanc­e gym to the dance studios and the sports hall this dynamic facility will cater to student clubs and societies making the student experience at IT Tralee one of the best in the country.
