Kilbrin and Millstreet seek the last spot in Junior ‘A’ hurling championship semi-finals
JUST one semi-final position remains to be filled in the E Tarrant & Sons Duhallow JAHC, that will be resolved this Friday evening on the clash of Kilbrin and Millstreet in Lismire.
When the sides met at the same quarter-final stage last season, Kilbrin discovered a new urgency during the second half to pull away for a nine point triumph.
With just a goal separating the pair at the three quarter

RESULTS
Bishopstown 1-19 Kanturk 1-12 County IFC
Knocknagree 2-17 Adrigiole 0-8 Millstreet 2-9 Kinsale 0-8 Mitchelstown 1-18 Rockchapel 1-8 mark, Kilbrin’s class and experience proved crucial with an all important Stephen O’Reilly goal allowed the then reigning champions make the decisive push to pull away for a decisive victory and a stepping stone to returning to a decider only to relent to Banteer.
From the current campaign, a polished Kilbrin recorded a comfortable Round 1 win over Freemount. The outcome was decided by the ability of the Kilbrin attack to convert goal scoring opportunities at key stages thanks to major strikes from Eoin Sheahan, Con Carroll and Shane Crowley.
Thereafter, Kilbrin renewed rivalry against Banteer, not at their best, Kilbrin failed to get a decent return from chances created during the second half. In fairness, Kilbrin worked hard, Wiliam Egan, an inspirational force at centre back received support from Cillian Buttimer and Daniel Sheahan.
Meanwhile, Millstreet bothered Banteer in a cracking first round yet the concession of goals during the second half decided the outcome in favour of the holders. Millstreet brought a positive dimension yet wayward shooting limited progress before being reeled in by the defending champions.
Round 2 required a string of late points for Millstreet to steer clear from a gritty Kanturk. Two early goals from full forward John O’Mahony put Millstreet on their way to a game they had been expected to win comfortably yet forced to dig deep to withstand a fiery challenge from Kanturk’s second combination.
Without coming near their best form, Millstreet availed of the solid workrate of Darren Kiely, Paul Sheehan, Barry O’Flynn and, Shane Hickey and O’Mahony to claim a victory. The majority of the Millstreet line up are involved at intermediate football and with county player Mark Ellis, an ongoing injury concern, they have a quick turnaround of five days to prepare for this tussle.
It’s fair to say both Kilbrin and Millstreet can improve on their previous outings, the tendency is to believe that the balance and experience of Kilbrin will get them over the line and a meeting against Newmarket in the semi final.
