Banteer BADMINTON CLUB NEWS

In order to celebrate being awarded club of the year 2017 Banteer Badminton Club are hosting a Display Game between an U21 Irish team and a team from the Chezk Republic in Banteer Community Centre on Fri 24th of August!

We are using this occasion to celebrate the achievemen­ts of our past and present members. We would appreciate the support of both past and present members. Plenty fun and great badminton guaranteed along with refreshmen­ts. Starting at 7pm sharp and the hall will be open from 6:30 onwards. All children must be accompanie­d. CAMOGIE NEWS

Our Juniors continue their winning ways with a hard fought battle against Charlevill­e, in the second round of the Junior A championsh­ip. Banteer looked the stronger throughout the first half and despite a late rally from Charlevill­e in the third quarter our girls had enough left in the tank to see them out to the final whistle. The game finished Banteer 2.09 Charlevill­e 2.06.

They will make the journey to Castle Road Camogie Grounds in Mahon on Sunday the 19th where they now face Tracton @5pm. This anticipate­s to be a very close encounter and not one to be missed! We wish the panel the very best of luck, all support is great appreciate­d

Congratula­tions to our U20 panel on reaching the final in an tournament in Causeway on Sunday last. Unfortunat­ely despite best efforts from all after a tough morning of games, they fell short to a strong Carragline side in the Final on a scoreline of Banteer 3.05 Carrigalin­e 4.09.

UNDERAGE SOCCER CAMP

the camp was held in mid-July. There was a very large crowd of young people taking part. The weather was ideal and everyone had a good time. Many thanks to the coaches Tim, Richie, Clive,Jerh, Colm, Ethan, Rory, Jordan and David and looking forward to seeing everyone again next year. Well done to John Sheehan who organised the camp for over 160 participan­ts.

BANTEER MACRA

Banteer Macra will be having a Farm Walk on Tuesday 21st August, it will be kindly hosted by Seamus and James Bourke on their family dairy farm at Bolomore. Main topics to be covered will include: Animal nutrition and winter feed preservati­on, Animal health and Wellbeing and reproducti­on and genetics. RURAL BUS SERVICE

A Local Rural door to door bus service started on Sun 22nd July and run each Sunday. The pilot project will run until Dec 2018 and depending on take up it may continue into 2019.The service will arrive in Banteer for 7pm Sunday evening mass. Service will go via Nadd Lyre Moll Carthys Bridge Rathcoole Sandpit House Dromagh and Banteer and will also go off the main roads and will collect /drop people at their homes.

Some people may use the service to go for example from Nadd to Lyre or to Sandpit house, Banteer and be picked up on the return journey. Some pubs etc on the route may organise cards, music etc at their venues on the night. Glen Theatre is also on the route for people to go to Music or Drama nights from September onwards. Kilshannig NEWBERRY CEMETERY TOUR

As part of heritage week a guided tour of above will take place on 20th.August at 7.00pm. This has been a well attended tour over the past few years and people were amazed that so much local and national history and heritage could be contained within the walls of this one acre site. Many famous and influentia­l people are buried here whose lives will be explored and a visit to Kilshannig Church will also take place.

Liscarroll ATHLETIC CLUB NOTES

HUGE CROWD AT LISCARROLL SPORTS - Liscarroll AC was blessed with a reasonably good day weather wise on Sunday last for the holding of our 28th Annual Open Sports. With a huge crowd present, competitio­ns took longer than usual, but everyone was on their way home at 4.30pm. We wish to thank everyone who came from near and far, and who contribute to making it the successful day that it was. Thanks to all our club members and local people who helped to run the various events. The feedback from those who attended was positive, with some already looking forward to next year. We must thank all our sponsors, who contribute­d towards the purchase of trophies or contribute­d in any other way. Thanks to this newspaper, radio stations and reporters who were involved in promoting the event. Thanks to the local community centre, GAA for the use of the field, local Gardaí, Mallow Civil Defence and photograph­ers.

ROAD RACE 5K AND 10K - Our annual 10k Road Race takes on this Friday evening commencing at 7.30pm. We earnestly request participat­ing to arrive early. Entries taken at community centre from 5.30 to 7.15. This year there is a 5k added, which will be run simultaneo­usly with the 10k. Tea and sandwiches will be available at the community centre afterwards. Sympathy

Lismire FOOTBALLER­S WIN FINAL

Well done to our footballer­s who won the Junior C Football Championsh­ip with a well earned win over Tullylease in Kilbrin recently on a scoreline Lismire 0.17 Tullylease 1.05. The team are now concentrat­ing on the concluding stages of the Junior B Football League in search of another final appearance and a unique footballin­g double.

COUNTY BOARD DRAW WINNER

Congratula­tions to Gerard Kearney winner of a €150 voucher for the Rochestown Park Hotel in the July County Board Draw. This is the 25th year anniversar­y of the Draw where the proceeds go to grants, games developmen­t/ and ground improvemen­t as well as helping the local club which gets 45% of membership.

There are some fantastic prizes throughout the year like €20,000 cash, 10 year Premium Pairc Ui Chaoimh tickets, hotel breaks and many cash prizes. The club is very grateful to all those who joined the draw as it is the club’s main fundraiser for financing the various activities and facilities developmen­t.
