Kings of Croker – if just for one night
Look who were the real winners at Croker
IT was a match made in heaven for the GAA obsessed Linehan family from Dromtarriffe who got the red carpet treatment at Croke Park and were the first family ever to spend the night in the stadium – in a corporate box room which was decked out with €15,000 worth of goodies which they now get to keep.
John Linehan composed a ditty which scooped the Littlewoods Ireland’s Ultimate Croke Park Sleepover which was run in conjunction with Today FM. This week John told The Corkman that their corporate room was absolutely fantastic.
“We were all admiring the room and didn’t spot the Liam McCarthy Cup which was on a table in the room,” laughed John who was with his family, Lisa, Sean, Daniel and Angela.
As the family were being treated to some lavish food, Seamus Harnedy walked in and, for a moment, they also didn’t recognise him – as he was not wearing his trademark helmet.
Once it all registered, John’s sons were in awe, particularly when Jackie Tyrrell, Littlewoods Ireland ambassador, also walked in and the two stars took the family on a tour of Croke Park. “It was an amazing experience to be sleeping in Croke Park and during the night I looked out the window and I could see Hill 16 and the Cusack Stand across the way and not another person there but me and my family. It was a moment I won’t forget.”
Now, John is awaiting the delivery of €15,000 worth of furniture and clothes from Littlewoods.

As the family were eating, Seamus Harnedy walked in and, for a moment, they didn’t recognise him – due to him not wearing a helmet. John’s sons were in awe, and later Kilkenny legend Jackie Tyrrell, Littlewoods Ireland ambassador, strutted in, joining Harnedy in giving the family a stadium tour.
“It was an amazing experience to be sleeping in Croke Park, and during the night I looked out the window, and I could see Hill 16 and the Cusack Stand across the way and not another person there but me and my family. It really was a prize that money couldn’t buy,” John said.
“If Cork had been playing, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it half as much, as I would have been too distracted by the game, but this time I could just sit back and watch every puck of the ball with no nerves attached,” said John with a smile.
