Castletownroche 1-15 Araglin 1-12

CASTLETOWNROCHE regained the JBHC (1) title after a 20 year wait when they held out for a close win over Araglin at Kildorrery on Friday evening.

The winners led all through but were forced to withstand a great Araglin rally in the closing moments. Jonathan O’Callaghan (free) and Dylan O’Connor had the opening points for the winners.

Shay Russell pointed a free for Araglin but impressive Niall Hazelwood replied as the winners moved 0-3 to 0-1 ahead. They had their goal in the ninth minute when good play by David Relihan led to a great goal by Mark O’Callaghan.

Jonathan O’Callaghan added another point with Tom Kenneally pointing for Araglin. Muiris Browne excelled for Castletown. In the 20th minute Niall Hazelwood and Oisin Hickey (free) swopped a point.

Araglin finished the half very strong. Tom Kenneally pointed two frees. In the closing moments Oisin Hickey and Niall Hazelwood exchanged a point as Castletown led at the break 1-8 to 0- 6 after Muiris Browne put David Relihan in for an injury time point.

On the restart Jonathan O’Callaghan edged his side double scores clear from a free. David Relihan added another free. Araglin gained the momentum from here on. They defended very well but overall they lacked scoring power up front.

Both were off target with Cain O’Mahony having a point for Araglin in the 56th minute 1-12 to 0-12. Castletown battled back well under pressure. They had three rapid points that put six between them coming up to the end of normal time.

Tom Kenneally goaled from a free and the lead was down to three points. In the 65th minute a foul on Niall Hazelwood led to a free by Jonathan O’Callaghan that struck the upright and was followed by the final whistle.

After game Michael Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald Hurleys presented the Cup to the winning captain Mark O’Callaghan in the presence of Board Chairman Barry Aherne. Mark O’Callaghan was also named ‘man of the match’.
