Clash of the ash in Meelin on Saturday

- MARIA HERLIHY

THERE will be the sweet sound of the clash of the ash in Meelin on Saturday which is all in aid of Marymount Hospice.

The parents of St Marks’ Juvenile Hurling Club have been busy the last number of weeks and will hold a charity hurling morning in conjunction with ‘Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ for hospice care.

One of the organisers, Dermot McCarthy, said they aim to have up to 180 children of all ages playing hurling this Saturday, September 22. With a smile, he said the only thing which is out of their control is the weather, but to counteract that there will be gallons of tea and coffee to keep everyone in chirpy form.

From 10am until 1.30pm, St Marks U8s up to the U14s will play hurling against some of North Cork’s finest clubs which will include Ballyhea, Newmarket, Dromtariffe, Kanturk, Croke Rovers and Milford.

Local musicians along with children will also give a warm cead mile failte to parents and children who are turning up for this charity event.

Mr McCarthy said when it was mentioned to do this charity event for Marymount everyone got on board.

“Unfortunately, everyone will know someone who has had cancer and we really believe that Marymount is a very deserving charity as they help so many people in their greatest time of need,” said Mr McCarthy.

While the event has yet to take place, there is a very warm good will evident already as €300 has been collected. The parents of St Mark’s Juvenile Club are hoping that as many people as possible turn up on Saturday to support this great fund-raiser.
