Q Centre courses open up new horizons for learners

-

CORK ETB Adult Education Service is offering a part-time Level 2 VTCT Certificate in Barbering in the Q Centre, Mallow.

This course will run on Wednesdays for 16 weeks from mid-September.

This programme is being offered to anyone in North Cork with a desire to learn more about the skills and techniques associated with barbering, who are willing to commit themselves to part-time education for one day per week. It is a qualification that has been designed to develop your practical skills in the creative art of cutting men’s hair, the specialist work of cutting facial hair and how to offer a good consultation service for clients.

While attending, you will also develop a sound knowledge of health and safety whilst working in the barbering industry. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical barbering skills needed for employment in barbering.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform in a salon. When learners have successfully completed this qualification they will have the opportunity to progress to the ‘Shop Floor’ in Barbering, which may then lead directly into employment in the barbering industry as a junior stylist or in work as an independent barber.

Other courses offered in the Q Centre include QQI Level 3 or 4 Computers, Communications and Mathematics, along with Cookery, Upholstery, Work Experience and Photography.

Back To Education Initiative (BTEI) courses enable adults to return to education, in whatever area they feel would be most beneficial to them. Flexibility is the important thing, so courses are offered on a part-time basis, in the Mornings, afternoons or evenings.

Anyone who has left full-time education can take part in a BTEI course being offered, but we give priority to those who have left school early for example those that have done Junior Cert or less. Those who may be in receipt of a Social Welfare payment, e.g. Job-seekers or disability payments, carer’s allowance, one-parent family allowance, medical cardholders etc, are entitled to apply for BTEI courses.

The Q Centre welcomes learners of all ages, abilities and nationalities and promise to provide a learning environment which is both innovative and supportive. The aim is to give learners an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Courses offer progression to further education and training. All BTEI courses are free.
